Activated Sludge Biological Treatment Plant

Usage Functions

The proposed plant is designed to enable cost-effective wastewater treatment. It is intended for communities ranging in size from 5 to 500 users. The primary goal of the design is to avoid costly civil works and minimize the footprint (the plant can also be installed underground).

The plant stands out for its versatility, allowing it to work with discontinuous flow rates while still ensuring effluent quality well within the limits specified by Legislative Decree 152/06, Annex 5, Table 3.

The system is also ideal for small and medium-sized cheese factories, ensuring easy management and cost-effectiveness (both in terms of purchase and operation).

Technical Features

The plant consists of monoblocks constructed from metalwork, with process tanks made from cut and press-bent panels of hot-dip galvanized steel. All compartments in contact with water are lined with “Thermowelded” reinforced PVC, representing the process stages. The entire system is controlled by a general control panel equipped with a PLC, which synergistically manages the entire wastewater treatment system. The system consists of two fundamental treatment phases:

  • A prolonged oxidation biological process.
  • A physical settling process.
  • As needed, it can be supplemented with chemical-physical processes and disinfection phases.

The system is equipped with diffusers for prolonged aeration, significantly reducing detention times and enabling aerobic stabilization of sludge. The first compartment is dedicated to biological treatment, housing microbubble diffusers for oxygen distribution via a blower. Through an oxygen meter for dissolved oxygen detection, an inverter, and software, the optimal dissolved oxygen concentration is maintained. The comprehensive aeration system creates ideal conditions for the activity of microorganisms, which is fundamental to the entire process.

The module used for sedimentation ensures effluent clarification and, at the same time, sludge thickening. The sedimentation tank is in the shape of a truncated cone for efficient sludge collection using an air-lift, while the effluent overflows through a Thompson profile.
